  Aim

The aim of this project is to build relationships with European partners in order to gain knowledge of systems and requirements in each partner country regarding the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) needs of laboratory staff and to scope how e-learning could be utilised to facilitate this.

Objectives

The following are the broad project objectives – each partner country will refine one specific project objective which will then form the focus of the transnational meeting which they will host

1. to explore and understand the different approaches to continuing professional development for laboratory staff in each of the partner countries

2.   to identify and share good practice employed by each partner institution

3. to recognise barriers for laboratory staff in undertaking continuing professional development

4. to consider how development of an e-learning course could improve continuing professional development opportunities within a transnational arena and to consider the requirements for developing an e-learning continuing professional development course for laboratory staff.

The purpose of this Partnership is to build relationships with European partners in order to gain knowledge of systems and requirements in each partner country regarding the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) needs of laboratory staff and to scope how e-learning could be utilised to facilitate this.

The project will take place in three phases. Phase 1 will involve meeting partners and finding out about each other’s organisations and continuing professional development practices. This phase will include learning about the requirements for developing an e-learning course andvisiting organisations within each of the partner countries to review the range of continuing professional development provision which is already in existence in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Malta  and the UK. The second phase will involve sharing expertise and building a strong European network while the third phase will use information that has been shared and learned to suggest ways forward for development and implementation of an e-learning course as a resource for continuing professional development for laboratory staff within the partner countries.
